A member of staff putting a notice on an untaxed vehicleOur parking policy

We worked with tenants to come up with rules about parking that are simple and fair.  We have two policies, one for houses built from 1996 onwards and one for older homes.

Newer build homes

Many of our newer homes only have parking to the front or small driveways to the side. Homes that were built from 1996 onwards that do not have enough parking to the side of the home can only park vehicles on hardstandings or driveways if:

  • no damage is caused to driveway or hardstanding
  • no nuisance or annoyance is caused to your neighbours because of your vehicles
  • parking (other than cars) is for a maximum of 6 times per year - with a maximum stay of 24 hours each time
  • all cars display a valid tax disc OR a valid SORN notice
  • there is no sleeping in vehicles overnight
  • it doesn't breach any planning permission or covenant
  • vehicles are in a reasonable condition and not dangerous
  • the tenant or a member of the household owns the vehicle.

We will need to review specific cases where we have given permission in the past. Depending on your circumstances, we may have to withdraw the permission we have previously given you.

If you break the rules you will be given a warning. Further incidents could be a breach of the terms of your tenancy agreement, and you could be putting your home at risk if you continue to break them.

Older homes and newer homes with enough parking

Some of our homes have more extensive driveways or hardstandings. The rules about parking for these homes will not be as detailed, and we will assess each application on its own merits.

However, permission will be withdrawn if:

  • damage is caused to the driveway or hardstanding
  • your vehicles cause nuisance or annoyance to your neighbours
  • there is a breach of any planning permission or covenant.
