Who we are

Selwood Housing Group is a not-for-profit housing association committed to providing affordable local homes for our customers. We have nearly 7,500 homes for affordable rent and shared ownership in Wiltshire, Somerset and Bath and North-East Somerset and employ over 300 staff from our offices in Trowbridge and Melksham.

The role

Joining our team as a Fencing operative, you’ll carry out installations, repairs and maintenance on our clients’ homes. Our properties are in and around the Trowbridge/Melksham area and you will be given a company vehicle and fuel card to travel to and from site.

Responding to new jobs as they come in, you’ll be making sure our occupied homes are safe and secure, and our empty properties are ready to let to new customers.

We're looking for someone eager and committed to doing a great job while delivering an excellent service to our customers.

Day to day you may be:

  • Completing fencing installations and repairs, covering chain-link, close-board, picket, palisade, and simple joinery tasks
  • Inspecting existing fences for stability, wear, and damage, and recommending necessary repairs
  • Measuring and accurately estimating timescales for works
  • Ensuring precise alignment and proper fence height
  • Setting posts, securing panels, and assembling gates
  • CAT scanning and interpreting service drawings

What we are looking for:

  • Experience carrying out fencing works and utilising a full range of skills
  • Proficiency with fencing best practices to an intermediate/advanced level
  • A thorough knowledge of Health & Safety practices
  • Experience of working in occupied homes
  • A current valid driving license
  • A basic DBS check will be required for this role

Although it is not essential, it would also be hugely beneficial if you had experience within social housing or a local authority.

We offer excellent benefits, including:

  • 27 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • 2 paid gifted days; one for your birthday and one over Christmas
  • Buy / sell up to 1 weeks holiday
  • Life assurance
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Competitive pension (you pay 4%, we pay 9%)
  • Cycle to work scheme

If you're looking for excellent career progression, a supportive and experienced team, and varied work that benefits the local community, look no further.

At Selwood, we strive to respect the diversity of our staff. We care deeply about inclusivity and encourage candidates from all backgrounds, demographics, and identities to apply.

We are a Disability Confident employer and will do our very best to provide any adjustments, access and equipment you feel you may need throughout the interview process, and during your employment with us.

We’re keen to build a supportive and rewarding environment, free from discrimination, that works for everyone.
