Greenhouses

The most common repair associated with a greenhouse, is a broken glass pane. Follow the steps below to successfully remove and replace a glass pane.

Ensure you wear safety glasses and protective gloves at all times!

It is important that no one enters the inside of the greenhouse during the fitting process, as glass may fall at any time.

Step 1: place sheeting on the ground below the damaged glass. Ensure you move any plants and equipment away from the area to prevent any glass shards becoming hidden.

Step 2: access and remove the damaged pane. To do this, run a utility knife around the glass in need of repair to break the silicone sealant. Do this until all sealant has been broken.

Step 3: detach the clips securing the pane of glass to the frame.

Step 4: hold the glass securely and pull gently from the frame. You may need someone to assist you.

Step 5: discard of the broken glass safely.

Step 6: clear away any glass still left in the frame using a rag and brush. Remove all glass from the ground if necessary.

Step 7: replace the glass with a new pane, using the clips to secure the glass.

Some glass panes can be heavy, and you may need someone to help you hold the glass securely.

Keep the pane of glass straight at all times to prevent it from breaking.
