The 53 week year

As a tenant, you will have recently received a letter from us, detailing your rent and service charges for the 2019/20 financial year.

For those affected, we have also let you know that 2019/20 is a 53 week year. You may be wondering what this is and why this affects you? To help explain this further, we've included below some useful resources to help answer these questions for you.

Firstly, here's a short video explaining what the 53 week is and how this may impact your rent payments in 2019/20.

Key messages from the video are also available via a short Q&A which you can download here.

To summarise:

  • 2019/20 has 53 payment dates this year, as there are 53 Monday's in the year
  • If you pay your rent by Direct Debit we will take this into account for you
  • If you pay your rent by any other method, you'll need to follow the calculation and advice that we have provided in your letter
  • If you receive Universal Credit, you should be aware that this is currently calculated on a 52 week basis. However this may change. We are monitoring the Government's response to this issue and will let you know if there is a change.

If you're concerned at all about how the 53 week year affects you directly, please speak to one of our account managers, who can discuss your particular circumstances with you.
