A 'tenant' is anyone living in a home that Selwood Housing owns or manages. This includes people who rent their homes under a tenancy agreement or shared ownership agreement. This does not include leaseholders who are not eligible to apply for this role.

Exclusions

Please note, some people are not permitted to become board members, please read the exclusions below.

Selwood Housing is a registered company and charity. It must comply with a set of rules called the 'Articles of Association'. This is the company's legal rulebook and sets out how the organisation is run as well as who can become a customer board member.

People who come under any of the following categories are not allowed to become board members of Selwood Housing:

  • Someone who is or becomes bankrupt or who makes a voluntary arrangement with creditors;
  • Someone who is, or may be suffering a mental health disorder; and is admitted to hospital under the Mental Health Act 1983; or has a court order made for their detention or to appoint someone to look after their property or other affairs;
  • Someone who is subject to a court order disqualifying him or her from serving as a board member of a company or who is otherwise prevented legally from being a company director.

If you are in any doubt, you should seek professional advice from your local Citizens Advice Bureau or similar organisation.

Pay and expenses

Board members are paid positions. Currently board members receive £4,802 per annum. Travel expenses to board meetings and events count as income and are taxable. It is up to you to establish if payment affects any benefits you may be in receipt of and make declarations to anybody you receive benefits from.
