Last week, Laura from our Involvement and Communities team, along with our scrutiny team Chair, Sandie Smith, and scrutiny team member, Asma-Bakali-Laughton attended the National Scrutiny Conference in Loughborough, run by Tpas England. This is the only national conference dedicated to Tenant, Resident, and Customer-led scrutiny.

Our scrutiny team is an independent group of customers that ensures our services are effective and that the way we work considers our customers' perspectives. This is part of something called co-regulation, which means that as a landlord, we must support tenants to shape and scrutinise our service delivery and hold us to account. If you’re interested in knowing more, or trialing being a member, please email our involvement team at makeadifference@selwoodhousing.com

If you’re a customer of Octopus Energy and are feeling concerned about your energy bills this Winter, they have an electric blankets scheme to support customers most in need. Their research shows that the typical home could save £300 by using an electric blanket to keep warm rather than always heating the whole house. If you are able to buy one outside of this scheme, electric blankets cost around £60.

I have to say thanks to Sean Bowden and the roofing team and his team at Selwood we have saved at leat half on our gas bill, with extra oft insulation, cavity wall insulation, bridging done and soke aways in place our bungalow is toasty at half the cost of last year heating only on midway before it was on full and with me being heat dependant this has been a money and literally a life saver. It may be a lot of disruption for some but we'll worth it in the long term. Looking forward now to solor pannles in the future and sorting out electric car ports in gardens or parking (hopefully the government may bring this in with financial support for social housing) but in the mean to me if Selwood off the upgrade of your home say yes I would highly recommend it.
