The demolition of derelict flats at Westleigh in Warminster has begun, driving forward plans for Selwood Housing to build 18 new affordable homes in the town.
Demolition work at the Westleigh site began this week, following the successful clearance of nearby Alcock Crest over the past two months (pictured). Plans for the two sites include four new homes at Westleigh and 14 at Alcock Crest, pending planning approval.
The demolition is being carried out by contractor David Horton and is expected to be completed in February 2026.
Selwood Housing made the decision to demolish the blocks, originally built in the 1950s and 60s, in 2024, after investigations revealed the scope and cost of repairs to be higher than anticipated. All residents from both sites were rehoused.
“With the second of our redevelopment sites now being demolished, our bid to transform these areas and deliver more local affordable homes in Warminster is gathering pace. Our plans feature high levels of insulation and will be EPC ‘B’ rated. We’ll also be protecting and encouraging the ecology on the sites by retaining trees and installing bat and bird boxes. Nearby residents have been informed about the ongoing works and are encouraged to speak to the David Horton site manager with any questions or concerns.
Selwood Housing is looking to start work on the new developments from spring 2026.
