Selwood Housing are proud to continue their support for Group 5, a local furniture recycling charity dedicated to helping families and individuals in need across Westbury, Warminster, Melksham, Trowbridge, and Bradford on Avon.
Group 5 has made a significant difference in the lives of nearly 20,000 people over the past 35 years. The charity collects good-quality donated furniture and provides it free of charge to those struggling to afford essential household items. In a typical year, the dedicated team of volunteers helps to furnish more than 600 homes, alleviating poverty and raising living standards in the community.
Access to Group 5’s services is available via referral from trusted organisations and professionals, including social workers, doctors, health visitors, Citizens Advice Bureau, job centres, women’s refuges, councils, housing associations, and the multi-faith forum. This ensures that support reaches the most vulnerable families who are unable to afford the furniture they need.
Funding from Selwood Housing has enabled Group 5 to continue its valuable work, most recently assisting with the purchase of a new van. This support, alongside other funding, ensures the charity can maintain its operations and reach even more families in need.
Angie Blackford, Selwood Housing’s customer involvement and communities facilitator, said:
“We are delighted to support Group 5 and help make a real difference in our communities. Their work not only provides essential furniture to those in need but also brings people together through volunteering and community spirit.”
Group 5 is entirely run by unpaid volunteers who generously give their time to support others. The charity is always looking for new volunteers, with opportunities available in warehouse work, collection and delivery driving (for those over 25 with a full, clean driving licence), minor repairs, and office support.
Anyone wishing to donate good-quality furniture or volunteer with Group 5 can find more information on their website or by calling David Gowen and his colleagues on 01225 764849.
Selwood Housing is committed to supporting local communities and improving the lives of vulnerable families through partnerships, funding, and community initiatives.
