Selwood Housing, a local housing association based in West Wiltshire, has been shortlisted in the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) West of England Building Excellence Awards 2018.

The East Town Road development in West Ashton, near Trowbridge, has been shortlisted in two categories, Best Small New Housing Development and Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development, with the winners due to be announced on Friday 13 July 2018.

Paul Walsh, group development director at Selwood Housing commented,

“We are delighted to be shortlisted for two awards in the LABC West of England Building Excellence Awards. Built in 2017, this development has been well-received in the village of West Ashton, providing two much needed affordable homes in rural communities.”

According to the National Housing Federation's Home Truths Report, housing associations built 26% of new homes in England in 2017/18.

Paul added, “The development is part of Selwood Housing's much wider contribution to combatting the housing crisis in Wiltshire and surrounding counties. During the financial year of 2017/18 Selwood Housing built a record number of affordable homes, totalling to 254, 110 of which were within Wiltshire itself.”

The East Town Road development consists of two, two-bedroom semi-detached homes, built for performance and sustainability. Constructed from responsibly sourced materials, the properties boast increased insulation and internal membrane to provide low running costs, achieving code for sustainable homes level three.

All winning projects from the regional awards, automatically qualify for the LABC Grand Finals, taking place in London on Friday 9 November.
