Selwood Housing’s stronger communities fund has helped Wiltshire Treehouse provide bereavement support for children and young people in Trowbridge and surrounding areas, giving local families access to specialist help during a difficult time.
The funding enabled Wiltshire Treehouse to deliver its bereavement support programme, NEST, for young people aged 11 to 16 living in Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster and surrounding villages.
Sarah Bear, Business Director said; “The grant has contributed towards helping the charity create a safe and welcoming environment where young people could talk about their grief, build friendships and develop coping strategies”.
Families have shared that the programme has made a real difference. Young people on the programme said they feel less alone in their grief, more able to express how they’re feeling, and more confident in using ways to cope. Parents and carers have also noticed positive changes, with stronger communication, improved emotional wellbeing, and a growing ability to reconnect with education and social activities.
A participant of the NEST programme said; “I am happier and can talk about Mum more. I enjoyed the activities we done. I am very grateful.”
This demonstrates how community funding can make a meaningful difference by ensuring bereaved young people can access compassionate, local support when they need it most.
