Natia’s story

Hi, I’m Natia, the Apprentice HR Administrator at Selwood Housing. I’m working on my level 3 CIPD qualification in people practice, which I started in April 2024 and will finish in October 2025.

In my role, I help the HR team with daily tasks like DBS checks, medical appointments, and contract changes. I’ve also taken charge of our wellbeing site and will soon be a qualified mental health first aider. Recently, I started a project to support our apprentices, helping them with their career steps and providing pastoral support.

My daily work varies but usually includes managing the inbox, attending HR meetings, shadowing advisors, and participating in learning opportunities. I’ve gained a lot of hands-on experience in employee relations and employment law, allowing me to become more confident in my role.

What I enjoy most about my apprenticeship is learning on the job while studying. It has helped me understand HR’s role in the organisation, and I get to work on various projects at Selwood Housing.

I love working at Selwood Housing because they truly care about their employees. I’m proud of our culture, values, and the work we do for our customers. It’s a great place to work with many benefits and development opportunities.

I chose an apprenticeship after returning from maternity leave to gain a recognised qualification and further my career. I’ve been interested in HR for a few years, and when the apprentice role was advertised, I decided to go for it.

After completing my apprenticeship, I aim to become an HR advisor and pursue my level 5 qualification for more senior job opportunities in the future.

For anyone considering an apprenticeship, it’s a great way to gain work experience while studying and getting paid. Apprenticeships are for everyone, not just school leavers. It’s a fantastic option for starting a new career, and Selwood Housing is a great employer that supports this.
