My name is Connor and I’m an apprentice IT solutions developer, currently working on my Level 3 Software Development apprenticeship.
I’ve been an apprentice at Selwood Housing for 6 months now. In my day-to-day role, I work with the rest of the IT development team on creating a new housing management system. A typical day in the office involves working closely with the team and helping each other with any issues we may face when building IT solutions.
One of the key skills I have learned since being an apprentice IT solutions developer is communication. Being able to confidently ask questions and speak to people is something that will be useful inn whatever task I may be doing.
The thing I enjoy most about my apprenticeship is having the opportunity to learn new IT skills which is a field that I have always wanted to work in.
Selwood Housing has been a great place to learn because the culture is geared towards personal development and I’m supported to gain experience that will help me in my current role and beyond.
I chose to do this apprenticeship because I had been working in the hospitality industry for a few years, but always wanted to go into software development. I now have the chance to learn and have an opportunity to do what I have always wanted to do. My future plans are to keep developing my knowledge and skills, and I’m glad to have Selwood Housing support me.
