National apprenticeship week 2025
National apprenticeship week 2025 is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the incredible value that apprenticeships bring to both individuals and industries. It highlights the diverse pathways for learning, growth, and career development, providing hands-on experience and the chance to earn while you learn.
Apprenticeships offer an empowering way to bridge the gap between education and employment, equipping young people with practical skills that make them highly sought after in the job market.
National apprenticeship week serves as a reminder of the importance of investing in talent, and creating opportunities that allow individuals to succeed in their chosen careers. It also highlights the vital role that we, as an employer, play in shaping the future workforce by nurturing the skills of apprentices and building confidence in on-the-job learning.
Apprenticeships at Selwood Housing
As an apprentice at Selwood Housing, you will work alongside experienced staff members, acquiring job specific skills and gain nationally recognised qualifications. This year, we have asked a selection of our apprentices to share their own journeys, sharing personal insights into what it is like to be an apprentice with Selwood Housing, and why being an apprentice was the right choice for them.
Reuben said:
The thing I most enjoy about being an apprentice is the people you get to meet. At Selwood Housing, I move around different departments, meeting new and lovely people, and learning new techniques from each one of them.
Click to read more about Reuben’s story and why he chose apprenticeship over other options.
Connor’s story is also available to read. He works in our IT solutions development team, and said:
I chose to do this apprenticeship because I had been working in the hospitality industry for a few years, but always wanted to go into software development. I now have the chance to learn and have an opportunity to do what I have always wanted to do. My future plans are to keep developing my knowledge and skills, and I’m glad to have Selwood Housing support me.
Our apprentice HR administrator, Natia, also shared her story and commented:
I love working at Selwood Housing because they truly care about their employees. I’m proud of our culture, values, and the work we do for our customers. It’s a great place to work with many benefits and development opportunities.
We’ve also shared videos on social media interviewing Natia in HR, and Tyla who is training to become an electrician. They share the benefits of apprenticeships, and why choosing Selwood Housing made all the difference for them.
More information is available on our apprenticeships webpage. Keep an eye on our careers webpage for job opportunities, and you can also sign up for job alerts to keep you in the loop for future roles!
Appren-T-Fest 2025
On 5 February, a group of 18 Selwood Housing employees visited Wiltshire College to attend Appren-T-Fest. This event is designed to showcase apprenticeship and early career opportunities to around 500 young people in Trowbridge and the surrounding areas. It is delivered in partnership with the Swindon and Wiltshire Careers Hub.
A variety of teams attended to showcase the wide range of roles and trades within Selwood Housing, including HR, learning and development, IT, electricians, customer liaison officers, fire safety, supervisors, gas foremen, multi-skilled operatives, voids, renewables, and carpentry. Since the event, we’ve had students reach out to schedule work experience with us, which is fantastic! A huge thank you to everyone who attended and shared their positive experiences of working with Selwood Housing!
