We have recently welcomed customers to our new homes at Platinum Court in Studley Green, Trowbridge. A mix of affordable homes – six for rent and three for shared ownership – all have an EPC 'A' rating, making them cheaper to heat with a lower carbon footprint.
Built on the site of the derelict John Bull pub, we were pleased to have the opportunity to help regenerate the local area and to pilot a large number of environmental features for the first time in our homes.
More energy efficient
We prioritised a high quality design and energy efficiency for these homes. As a result, all have a more effective thermal 'envelope' that gives outstanding insulation and air-tightness, while minimising heat loss through the house structure. It also means that the potential for damp caused by moisture-laden air leaking in and condensing has been minimised.
All the homes are fitted with electric air source heat pumps that extract renewable heat energy from the air, providing a green and clean solution to heat both water and radiators. The heat pumps are supplemented by solar panels on the roof, helping to keep electricity bills low.
The timber frame construction ensured insulation was further improved and timber also offers the lowest CO2 footprint of any building material.
Residents will also enjoy the benefits of low energy lighting, smart heating controls, EV charge points, bird boxes and planting to encourage bio-diversity!
Platinum Court is another firm step towards meeting our carbon reduction targets. Funding support of £862K from our partner at Homes England helped ensure the successful completion of these new homes.
With our recent funding award from the government's Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, we'll also be working towards delivering sustainable upgrades to bring all our homes to at least EPC 'C' rating by 2030.
