Bratton Hilly Run - entries now open

Taking place on Saturday 11 May 2019, the 23rd Bratton Hill run is a challenging 11.4k run on the edge of Salisbury Plain with panoramic views.

A donation from the proceeds will be made to Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Entry costs £11 in advance, or £13 on the day of the run.

Trophies are available to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places (male and female).

February news and events

Awesome Archaeology (for juniors), Stonehenge

This February half term, join the team of volunteers at Stonehenge and see what you can find in their outdoor excavation trench. Get hands on with facial reconstruction experts who will be showing you how to use evidence to recreate faces from the past.

This drop-in workshop is free for Stonehenge ticket holders. The excavation trench is undercover, but warm clothes are advised.

The Awesome Archaeology event will take place from Saturday 16 - Sunday 24 February, from 10 - 16:30 each day.

Under 16's swim for free, Wiltshire

Free swimming will be available for under 16's during specific sessions throughout all Wiltshire school holidays.

The dates in 2019/20 that free swimming will apply are:

18 - 22 February 2019
8 - 22 April 2019
27 - 31 May 2019
26 - 30 August 2019
24 October - 1 November 2019
23 December - 3 January 2020

Please note, pools are closed on bank holidays and only one free swim per day is allowed.

All under 16's need to apply for a free swim membership card. Application forms can be collected from Wiltshire Council swimming pools, Places for people leisure pools or downloaded from the Wiltshire Council website.

Sexual Health level 1 course, Chippenham

This course is part of a multi-agency training programme for professionals working with young people in Wiltshire, to develop their skills and knowledge in respect to sexual health.

The aim is to provide participants' with knowledge and skills around sexual health and its impacts on young people. This course will act as a foundation for further learning and signpost into other related courses.

The course will take place on Monday 18 February from 09:30 - 16:00 at the Wiltshire Council Offices, Monkton Park, Monkton Hill, Chippenham, and is free of charge.

Soccar Schools, Active Trowbridge

Active Trowbridge's Soccer Schools are football-based days which include warm-up and reaction games, technique training that focuses on improving passing, dribbling, shooting, attacking and defending, and matches or tournaments.

Soccer Schools are for boys and girls aged 5 to 14 years and are suitable for any ability.

Held from Monday 18 February until Friday 22 February from £13 per day, at The John of Gaunt School, Trowbridge.

Active Kids Camp and Breakfast Club, Active Trowbridge

The Active Kids Camp will be held throughout the school holidays and offer a range of inspiring activities to entertain and educate children ages 4* - 12 years. The activities are run by qualified sports coaches and are held at The John of Gaunt School, Trowbridge.

*please note, 4 year old children must be attending primary school.

The Active Kids Camp will be held from Monday 18 - Friday 22 February from 8:00 - 17:30 at a cost of £17 per day.

Camp Fusion, Active Trowbridge

Camp Fusion combines inflatable games with gymnastics, dance and netball to show children that physical activity can be fun.

Mainly aimed at girls aged between 7 to 14 years old, the camp is also open to boys.

Camp Fusion will be held from Monday 18 - Wednesday 20 February at The John of Gaunt School, Trowbridge, from 8:30 - 15:00 at a cost of £13 per day.

Children's Bushcraft Taster, Salisbury

Led by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, learn how to make your own bow and arrows, as well as learn how to build a survival shelter.

The event will be held at The Devenish, Salisbury, SP4 6AJ on Wednesday 20 February from 10am - 12 noon.

Tickets costs £5 per child, and booking is essential.

Over The Moon, Trowbridge

Over the Moon weaves together gentle classical music with familiar nursery rhymes and games, in an interactive musical adventure for babies.

Join the Hurley Burley Company for musical tickling, stretching, chomping and stamping as you journey together through the day: walking, eating, playing and sleeping.

With music by Dubussy, Ravel, Humperdink and Monteverdi alongside folk songs, nursery rhymes and music composed by the company, the show is set to last 40 minutes and includes a chance to get comfy beforehand, and play together at the end.

The event will take place on Wednesday 20 February, from 10:30am at Trowbridge Town Hall, BA14 8EQ.

Tickets to this event are £5 per person.

DJ workshop, Trowbridge

Have you ever wanted to be a DJ?

Do you like dance music?

Maybe you are interested in using your voice as an MC or a singer?

DJ Nina LoVe will show you how to mix the 'Old Skool' way, using vinyl records! There will be different types of music available, including house, UK garage or drum and bass.

The event will take place on Friday 22 February from 15:30 - 17:00 at the Longfield Community Centre in Trowbridge.

International Women's Day 2019, Trowbridge

Join West Wiltshire Multi Faith Forum on Saturday 9 March to celebrate International Women's Day 2019.

An event solely for women, those attending will be able to enjoy activities such as belly dancing, nail pamper, henna and hair plaiting.

The celebration event will take place from 11:30 - 16:45, at Bethesda Church, Newtown/Gloucester Road, Trowbridge, where there will be a free creche available for those bringing children.

This is a free event, however those attending are asked to bring a pudding or a drink.

Mother's Day at Cholderton Charlie's Farm

Celebrate Mother's Day 2019 with a fun day out for the family at Cholderton Charlie's Farm, near Salisbury.

Special activities will include Mum's Farmyard Quiz for all the family to enjoy. There will also be a special lunch and afternoon tea in the Ewe Tree Cafe & Bar, with prices starting from £5.95 per person.

Great crooners of the 20th Century, Trowbridge

Join Duncan Galloway, lead singer of the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, as he takes you on a nostalgic trip with some of the tunes sung by the great crooners of the 20th Century, including Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Matt Munro.

The event will take place on Friday 5 April from 14:30 - 16:00, at the Town Hall Arts, Market St, Trowbridge, BA14 8EQ.

3rd Wiltshire (Warminster) BP Scout Group

3rd Wiltshire (Warminster) BP Scout Group provide traditional outdoor scouting and survival skills to young people aged between 5 to 18, across Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Senior Scouts, as well as running the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Meetings take place on Wednesday evenings at the Warminster Rugby Club, Folly Lane, Warminster, BA12 7RG.

17:00 - 18:15 - Beavers (aged 5 to 8).

18:30 - 20:00 - Wolf Cubs (aged 8 to 10).

19:00 - 21:00 - Scouts (aged 11 to 15) and Senior Scouts (aged 15 to 18).

Walking Netball with Active Trowbridge

Walking Netball is a slowed down version of the game of netball, designed for anyone looking to exercise in a relaxed, supportive and friendly environment. A game of Walking Netball is for all ages and abilities, and every session contains a gentle warm-up.

Held every Thursday between 13:30 - 14:30 at the Trowbridge Town Park, BA14 7EH.

£3.00 a session, with your first session free.

The Kindness Cafe, Trowbridge

Come along to the Kindness Cafe at The Community Hub at BA14.

Held every Friday from 10am until 12noon, this cafe starts from Friday 12 January.

The cafe will be a support and share meet-up group for older residents of Trowbridge, to assist with any health and wellbeing needs you may have. Enjoy hot drinks and biscuits, make new friends and learn more about the ways TCAF can help you live your life to the full.

The Community Hub is located within The Shires, Trowbridge.

Walking Football with Active Trowbridge

Walking Football is a slowed down version of the traditional game, designed for anyone looking to exercise in a relaxed, supportive and friendly environment. A game of Walking Football is for adults of all abilities.

Starting from 27 February, the sessions will be held every Wednesday between 13:30 - 14:30 at the Trowbridge Town Park, BA14 7EH.

£3.00 a session, with your first session free.

Wiltshire Family and Community Learning

Wiltshire Family and Community Learning are now offering free courses, focusing on employment and qualifications. These courses take place across Wiltshire in Chippenham, Devizes, Trowbridge and Salisbury.

Family parkrun, Melksham

parkrun organise fun 5km times runs weekly at King George V Park, Lowbourne, Melksham, every Saturday.

This event is free of charge, safe and easy to take part in. Families are invited to attend and go at their own pace.

Those who do not want to run are able to volunteer should they wish and cheer everyone on!

Doorstep Sports Club, Trowbridge

Doorstep Sports club is back with a new time!

Held every Wednesday from 5.30 - 7pm at Studley Green Community Centre and Multi Use Games Area, come along and get involved in a new street sports club and help decide the way your new club runs.

Open to anyone over the age of 10 years, this is a free event for all.

Melksham Seniors social club

Melksham & District Seniors 55+ forum weekly activity & social club is held at the Riverside Club, every Thursday from 10.30am - 12.30pm.

On alternative weeks, the forum hold a happy 'Sing-a-long' or a movement to music activity to help those attending improve their balance. It is also a great opportunity for a good natter with others over refreshments and followed by other fun activities.

Wiltshire Mind evening support group, Melksham

Wiltshire Mind, a local mental health charity, are holding evening groups to support those, primarily who are in work, who feel stressed, depressed, lacking in confidence or just in need of mental health support.

The weekly group will offer support, information and signposting to other services as well as friendship.

The meetings are held at the Wiltshire Mind office in Melksham High Street, from 6-8pm every Tuesday evening.

There is no need to book for this event.

Drop-in Saturday Social, Trowbridge

Wiltshire Council are pleased to announce their drop-in Saturday social, aimed at over 50's.

These social events occur every third Saturday of the month, from 9.30am-12.30pm, at Tesco Community Room, Trowbridge.

Don't sit at home alone, drop in for tea, cake, good company and fun activities.
